Sticky Icky Situation for Wiz

The “Young, Wild & Free” lifestyle just hit a major legal wall. On December 18, 2025, a Romanian appeals court officially sentenced Pittsburgh superstar Wiz Khalifa to nine months in prison.
The ruling by the Constanța Court of Appeal marks a dramatic escalation from a previous light fine. While the rapper is currently safe on U.S. soil, the decision has sent shockwaves through the industry, serving as a stark reminder that “rockstar energy” doesn’t always translate in international waters.
The “Ostentatious” Performance
The case stems from an incident in July 2024 at the Beach, Please! Festival in Costinești. While vibing to Snoop Dogg’s “The Next Episode,” Wiz did exactly what the world expects him to do: he lit up a massive joint.
Romanian authorities, however, were not amused. They detained the 38-year-old for possessing 18.53 grams of cannabis. While he was released shortly after and issued an apology on X—promising to return “without a big ass joint next time”—prosecutors from DIICOT (Romania’s anti-organized crime unit) pushed for blood.
From a Fine to a Felony
Earlier this year, a lower court attempted to settle the matter with a 3,600 lei ($830) fine. Prosecutors appealed, and the high court agreed that a mere slap on the wrist wasn’t enough.
In a scathing written reasoning, the judges described Wiz’s behavior as “ostentatious conduct” that amplified the “social danger” of the offense. They argued that by smoking onstage, he transmitted a “message of normalization” to the youth, essentially turning a music set into a pro-drug manifesto.
“He transmitted to the general public a message of normalization of illegal conduct, tacitly encouraging tolerance… among young people.” — Constanța Court of Appeal
Will Wiz Actually Serve Time?
The big question: Is the Taylor Gang captain headed for a Romanian cell? The Appeal: While Romanian news agencies label the decision as “final,” sources close to Wiz tell TMZ that “nothing is set in stone” and the legal team is still fighting the sentence.
- Extradition: Experts suggest it is highly unlikely the U.S. will extradite a citizen over a non-violent, personal-use drug charge, especially given the shifting legal landscape of cannabis in America.
- The Travel Ban: The real danger is for Wiz’s future touring. This sentence likely triggers an Interpol or Schengen-zone alert, meaning if Khalifa sets foot in Europe, he could be detained immediately to serve his nine months.
