The hip-hop world was rocked this week following a terrifying targeted attack on Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s Los Angeles residence. New details have emerged regarding the suspect, Ivanna Ortiz, a 35-year-old Florida resident, who is now facing a mountain of criminal charges after allegedly opening fire on the superstar’s family home on Sunday, March 8.
The Attack: A Family Under Fire
According to prosecutors, the incident occurred around 1:20 p.m. in the quiet Beverly Crest neighborhood. Ortiz allegedly pulled up to the property in a white Tesla and unleashed a hail of gunfire, reportedly, up to 10 rounds from an AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle.
Inside the home at the time were:
- Rihanna and A$AP Rocky
- Their three children (RZA, Riot Rose, and 5-month old Rocki)
- Rihanna’s mother
- Two household employees
Miraculously, despite at least four rounds striking the house and gate, no one was injured. The suspect also allegedly fired at a neighboring home occupied by two individuals.
The Legal Battle: 14 Felony Counts
Ortiz was apprehended by the LAPD in Sherman Oaks just 30 minutes after the shooting. On Tuesday, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman announced a staggering list of charges that could see Ortiz spending the rest of her life behind bars:
| Charge Type | Count |
| Attempted Murder | 1 |
| Assault with a Semiautomatic Firearm | 10 |
| Shooting at an Inhabited Dwelling/Camper | 3 |
“This careless violence will not be tolerated in our community,” Hochman stated. “Such shooters will find their next destination to be our jails and prisons.”
Courtroom Drama
During her initial court appearance, Deputy Public Defender Jamarcus Bradford briefly entered a “not guilty” plea on Ortiz’s behalf before withdrawing it to postpone the official arraignment. Ortiz is currently being held on $1.875 million bail (down from an initial $10 million).
A judge has already issued a protective order, mandating that Ortiz stay away from Robyn Fenty (Rihanna) and Rakim Mayers (A$AP Rocky). Investigators are currently looking into a bizarre series of social media posts Ortiz allegedly made in the weeks leading up to the attack, which targeted Rihanna and other stars like Cardi B.
The official arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday, March 25.
