Surrounded by family, city officials, and a sea of fans, Nipsey’s longtime partner Lauren London and his brother Samiel “Blacc Sam” Asghedom led the emotional sign unveiling at the very corner where the late legend launched his entrepreneurial journey.
A Prophecy Fulfilled
During the ceremony, Lauren London shared a touching memory that proved Nipsey was a visionary long before the world caught up:
“When me and Nip first started dating, we would drive by over here. He would be like, ‘You know, Boogie? One day they gon’ name this whole section after me.’ And here we are today.”
Blacc Sam followed up by emphasizing the deep roots of the location, noting that the intersection represents everything from “little kids to ownership,” and serves as a permanent reminder of the values Nipsey died defending.
The Empire Expands: Marathon Burger Goes Global
The street naming was just one part of a massive weekend for the Marathon brand. Blacc Sam is currently transforming his brother’s vision into a national hospitality empire:
- Long Beach Grand Opening: On Sunday, March 1, the newest Marathon Burger location opened in Long Beach with major backing from Snoop Dogg and his son, Cordell Broadus. Despite a nearby shooting that local police confirmed was unrelated to the event, the opening was a massive success.
- Next Stop: Times Square: Following successful runs in Venice Beach and Melrose, Blacc Sam confirmed that Marathon Burger is officially heading to Times Square later this year, bringing the spirit of Crenshaw to the “crossroads of the world.”
New Music on the Horizon: Prolific
For the fans waiting on new sounds, the wait is almost over. The estate recently announced that a posthumous collaborative album with Bino Rideaux, titled Prolific, is slated for release this summer.
The rollout kicked off in February with the lead single “Reckless,” produced by long-time collaborators Mike & Keys. The project features unreleased material the duo recorded prior to 2019, serving as a spiritual successor to their 2017 classic, No Pressure.
